Alfred Medical Research Facility

The Alfred Medical Research Facility consists of a precinct of buildings with laboratories and teaching facilities for some of Australia's leading medical research institutes. The principle institutes are Monash University, Baker Heart Research Institute, the Alfred Hospital and the Macfarlane Burnet Institute.

The precinct includes PC2 and PC3 laboratories, support areas and a major animal house.

The planning and development of the building services, during the concept and preliminary design stages of this project, was critical in achieving an outcome which enabled changes in laboratory usage throughout the life of the buildings.

Innovative engineering feature of this project included heat reclaim systems for the laboratory air-conditioning and a displacement system for the animal house.
